Kuala Lumpur is the capital and the largest city in Malaysia. It is mostly known for the Petronas Twin Towers, which were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2003, and remain the tallest twin towers on earth.
Where to stay in Kuala Lumpur?
When we were looking for a place to stay, having a rooftop pool with an amazing skyline view was on top of our list. We found out that The Face Suites have one of the most beautiful and the highest pools in Kuala Lumpur. It’s located on the 51st floor, the highest floor in the building; 38-metre long infinity pool comes with the stunning panoramic view of the city which includes both Petronas Twin Towers and KL Tower. However, we also discovered that the pool doesn’t belong exclusively to The Face Suits hotel, but is shared with everyone who owns an apartment in this building. Therefore if you want to enjoy one of the most beautiful rooftop pools, you don’t have to stay at The Face Suites. Many private landlords rent out the suites through different sites including booking.com and Airbnb. So we decided to spend one night at The Face Suites and one night at a privately rented apartment to compare both experiences for you. The infinity pool is open daily from 7.00am to 10.00pm.
The Face Suites
The Face Suites is a 5-star, all-suite hotel. It has a great, central location; most tourist spots are within walking distance. The spacious and comfortable suite included a functional kitchenette with washer and dryer, separate bedroom, walk-in wardrobe, two bathrooms and an office. The room had all the amenities that you would typically expect from a 5-star hotel. The room service menu had an adequate selection of dishes, which were delivered to the room in takeaway boxes. The buffet style breakfast had an excellent choice of cold and hot foods.

Saba Suites at the Platinum KLCC
Saba Suites are located in the same building as The Face Suites, however, they are a privately owned apartments. As most privately rented apartments in this building, Saba Suites were almost half the price compare to the Face Suites, and you will get the same access to the rooftop pool. What you won’t get, are the hotel amenities like room service, breakfast, daily cleaning or pool towels, you have to have your own. There is also no reception, the only receptions in the building belong to The Face Suites and The Platinum Suites Hotel. We contacted our host through Whats App to arrange the check-in. To check out we just made a picture of the room key and send it to the host to inform him that we left the room. The Saba Suite apartment had almost the same facilities and was as modern as The Face Suite, however not as spacious or nicely decorated. Overall it’s up to you how much do you value hotel amenities, personally taking into consideration that the privately rented suites are almost half the price I think that they are much better value for money.

Hakka Restaurant
Hakka is a traditional Chinese-Malaysian restaurant specialising in authentic Hakka cuisine. It has been around since 1956 and remains a family run business. The restaurant is located in the heart of the golden triangle and is surrounded by skyscraper buildings. It’s a huge and very casual place with most of the seating located outside, but they do have a retractable roof. We truly enjoyed the atmosphere at this place; you are eating local food on plastic furniture among high rise buildings and seeing the contrast of old with modern world around you. Most importantly the food was very good; you must try their homemade Hakka Noodles if you ask they will prepare it without pork.

Madam Kwan’s
If you want to try a range of authentic Malaysian dishes, all in one place you can’t go wrong with Madam Kwan’s. It’s conveniently located on the fourth floor of the Suria Mall. The Assam Laksa was delicious and full of flavour. This type of laksa is very different from more known curry laksa. The tamarind fish broth is sour and spicy, traditionally is topped with mackerel and fresh vegetables like cucumber and onion and served with sweet shrimp paste. The signature dish Nasi Lemak, was very tasty too. Aromatic coconut rice was served with chicken curry, sambal ikan bilis (sweet & spicy anchovies paste), dried shrimp floss, hard boiled egg, acar (pickled Malaysian vegetables) and fresh cucumber.

Yut Kee
Yuk Kee is a one of the oldest Kopitiam’s in Kuala Lumpur. It has been serving traditional Hainanese cuisine since 1928, and currently is being run by a third generation. Their famous Hainanese pork chop was moist and very tasty, we highly recommend you order it! The noodle dishes were nice too. Everything is very reasonably priced, and the service is great, our waiter was very friendly and took the time to explain various dishes to us.
